Jimmy Choo and Houston artist Robert Pruitt have come together to create a capsule collection of shoes and bags. This is where fashion design becomes art (or art becomes fashion design?). Either way, I’d rather have this Cayla clutch (on Net-a-Porter for $1,350) hanging on my wall or displayed on my shelf than carry it! The explosion of beads (reminiscent of sprinkles!) and colors is topped off by a sparkling crystal zebra print. These elements would normally be the makings of a huge mess, but Robert Pruitt gives it a strong point of view. He’s known for layering portraits of his friends with different media like comic books to illustrate views on black identity, so he knows how to bring together any number of styles and statements. Plus, on something as small as a clutch, it’s easier to get away with a wild look.
Pair it with some basic black Jimmy Choos (on Net-a-Porter for $695). You can’t try to upstage art! The bag has a very imaginative design, but would you really carry it? Is this clutch for an art snob or a fashion slob?
